MEETING BETWEEN UUM-ITS WITH THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS (ICRC)
GSGSG ONLINE: A meeting between UUM-ITS with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was held on December 14, 2015 hosted by Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The Dean of Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG) said, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the cooperation between the ICRC and the Institute of Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia (UUM-ITS) under GSGSG on the development of peace activities in Southern Thailand. The meeting has been attended by Prof. Dr. Kamarulnizam Mohd Abdullah, who is also the Director of UUM-ITS, Dr. Che Mohd Aziz Yaacob (Fellow of UUM-ITS), Mr. Hairul Mohd Fahmi Mohd Harris (Public Affairs Officer, ICRC Malaysia) and Mr. Andrew as the Coordinator of ICRC’s Asia Pacific & Indonesia.
ITS HOSTS REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON MALAYSIA-INDONESIA RELATIONS
2 February, Sintok – The Institute of Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore (ITS), in collaboration with the Fakultas Ilmu Sosial and Ilmu Politik (FISIP), Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) jointly organized a two-day workshop on socio-political issues related to Malaysia-Indonesia relations. The UI team was headed by its Dean, Prof. Dr Bambang Shergi Laksmono, while UKM delegation was headed by Associate Professor Dr. Junaenah Sulehan. More than 30 scholars from UUM, UI, UKM, and USM attended the workshop. The regional workshop was part of a second -track diplomacy initiated by the three institutions to monitor and discuss issues that might affect relations between the two neighbouring countries. The workshop was also part of a collaborative project to produce a joint publication between UI and ITS. Papers presented during the workshop will be published as an edited book later in the year. The Honourable Vice-Chancellor also graciously hosted a dinner for workshop participants. He was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Honourable Prof. Dr Rosna Awang Hashim. The Ghazali Shafei Graduate School and School of International Studies co-sponsored the event.
TIMOR LESTE'S INSTITUTE OF DIPLOMACY RECEIVES ITS EXPERTISE
23 January, Kota Kinabalu - Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) has selected UUM’s ITS as one of the expert panels for curriculum development for the Timor Leste's Institute of Diplomacy (TLID). The first meeting cum workshop was hosted by the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) between 21-23 January. ITS was represented by its Director, Prof. Dr. Kamarulnizam b Abdullah, while UUM's School of International Studies was represented by Dr. Mohammad Zaki Ahmad, Head of the International Affairs Department. The Director-General of TLDI, His Excellency Ambassador Hernani Coelho was also presence. During the meeting, ITS Director was also being appointed as the head of the academic contents of the TLID's curriculum development. The objective of the meeting-cum-workshop was to develop a training program for Timor Leste young diplomats and to prepare them for overseas posting. The meeting was part of a three-series workshop organized by the KPT. The next meeting, scheduled to be held in Putrajaya in late February. ITS will host the third meeting in March while Dili will be last meeting place for the project.
