INSTITUTE FOR  INDONESIA, THAILAND AND SINGAPORE RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS GRANT FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA

Institute for  Indonesia, Thailand And Singapore  (UUM-ITS) has received a grant of £ 125,000 from the Home Ministry (KDN) to conduct a research project on Malaysia Perception on the Islamic State- Daesh. The one year project involves several UUM lectures from COLGIS and CAS. The study would also combine researchers from the Institute of Public Security of Malaysia (IPSOM), the Ministry of Home Affairs. The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was executed in IPSOM Office, Putrajaya on July 22, 2016. Prof. Dr Mohd Kamarulnizam Abdullah, Acting Director of the UUM-ITS, cum the Dean of Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG)  represented UUM  while Ministry of Home Affairs was represented by the Senior Assistant Commissioner Dato' Dr Lee Bee Phang, the CEO of  IPSOM. The research grant is another testimony of the Malaysia’s recognition and trust toward UUM’s capabilities and expertise in the fields of Border Management, Conflict Studies and Political Violence.

THREE UUM LECTURER RECEIVE  RECOGNITIONS FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TIMOR LESTE

Universiti Utara Malaysia once again receive another accolade  of  international recognition when three of its lecturers were selected by the government of the Republic of Timor Leste to assist the Republic’s Foreign Ministry in the training program of young and senior diplomats. The first phase of the capacity building program will run between August –December of  this year. The three lecturers selected,  Professor. Dr Mohd Kamarulnizam bin Abdullah (Dean, Graduate School of Government Ghazali Shafie), Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Muda (Senior Lecturer, School of International Studies) and Dr Mohamad Zaki Ahmad (The deputy Dean, School of International Studies) will be heading to Dili, Timor Leste for two weeks from the end of July. They are also a part of a group of nine Malaysian public university lecturers who were selected from the dozens of applications received in May. The three of them would focus on the diplomacy training, international security and maritime law. Their other tasks include, to help developing curriculum for the Dili Institute, and to strengthen the academic profile of the ambassadors appointed by the government. The appointment shows the growing international recognition of UUM’s  professors  and academic quality especially in the field of International Studies.
